Sold OUT…. 2024 Lifeguard Instructor Course at the JuJu Pool in Dedham MA
This is a two day class first class is Monday April 21st and 2nd class is Friday April 25th from 9am to 5:30pm. MUST attend both days! Class will be at JUJU Pool 336 High St, Dedham, MA 02026. Please make sure these dates work for you. There are no refunds once you sign up. Once you sign up an email will be sent to you asking you to send the student name, email and phone number, this way we can get you registered with the American Red Cross so you can complete your blended learning.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?
The lifeguard instructor course is designed for organizations such as municipalities, educational facilities, and summer camp settings, to name just a few. It’s a helpful opportunity to conduct this training program right at your own facility on your own schedule. The training program is ideal for agencies and businesses needing to train or recertify lifeguards on a yearly basis or provide lifeguards for community facilities. In addition, the newly created lifeguard instructor can also provide bloodborne pathogen and CPR/AED/First Aid training to staff and community. Lifeguard instructors will also have the capability to conduct your facility audits and in-service training.
The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Basic Lifeguarding Instructor Course is to train instructors to teach the basic-level American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses. The lifeguard instructor course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to use course presentation materials, conduct training sessions, and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course. Upon successfully becoming a Lifeguarding Instructor, one is eligible to teach many other courses.
PREREQUISITES
- Participants must be at least 17 years old on the last class date
- Participants must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED Professional Rescuer certifications
- Participants must complete the American Red Cross 2 Hour Online Course prior to the first-class date
- Successful complete prerequisite skill scenarios, according to Red Cross standards.
- The American Red Cross also requires the following for successful course completion: participants must attend all scheduled dates and times, demonstrate proficient skills and pass a written exam with a score of at least 80 percent.
VERIFICATION OF SKILLS
The pre-course skills session is designed to evaluate instructor candidates’ lifeguarding, CPR and AED skills. Instructor candidates must successfully demonstrate competency in the pre-course skills session. Instructor candidates who do not demonstrate competency in the pre-course skills session prior to the start of the course cannot continue in the Lifeguarding Instructor course. Participants who successfully complete the pre-course skills session should be able to participate.
The instructor course is offered in a blended learning format that includes an online Introduction to the Lifeguarding Instructor Course to be completed before the first classroom session. The online Introduction to the Lifeguarding Instructor Course consists of an orientation to the American Red Cross, an orientation to the Lifeguarding Instructor course, as well as content on how to prepare and teach the courses. The classroom component is made up of a pre-course skills session and four course sessions that include practice-teaching assignments.
Instructor Led Duration: This class is approximately 22 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.
Blended Learning Duration: This class is approximately 2 hours. We require everyone who is taking a Review Class to do the Blended Learning.
Certification as an instructor trainer is valid for 2 years.
